Obituary of James Alfred Grimmette

Please share a memory of James to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
James Alfred Grimmette, 89, of Bruno and a resident of Genesis Logan Center, departed this life Sunday evening, February 18, 2024. He was born on June 4, 1934, to the late Jesse Grimmette and Estella (Grimmette) Stephens. James and Alta Jane Fowler Grimmette were married for 66 years before her departure in July of 2022. Prior to James’ declining death, he attended Sunday School at the Bruno Church of God. He made a confession of faith in Jesus Christ as his Savior to his Pastor Roger Frye. Preceding James in death were one sister, Edith (Lacy) Cox, and six brothers, Herbert “Peanut” Grimmette, Tracy Grimmette, Larry Grimmette, David Stephens, Michael Stephens, and Dexter “Dickie” Stephens. James was a proud member of the United Mine Workers’ Local Union 5958. He loved to discuss his coal mining days with anyone who had time to listen. He always enjoyed having a new car to shine and spent hours maintaining his vehicles. He loved cheering for the St. Louis Cardinals, Pittsburgh Steelers, and West Virginia Mountaineers. But also loved Western movies, gardening, and listening to gospel music. Those left to cherish his memory are one brother, Donald and Sandy Grimmette of Raeford, NC, and one sister, Brenda (Charlie) Williamson of Bruno. Sisters-in Law include Sue Grimmette Browning of Bruno, Carolyn Grimmette of Gallipolis, OH, Charlene “Bug” Stephens of Mallory, Wanda Grimmette, and Nadine (Buddy) Grimmette of Hunt. James leaves behind a host of additional family members and friends who have held a special place in his heart. The Grimmette family wishes to thank the staff at Genesis Logan Center and the many acts of kindness shown to James by friends and caregivers. Special thanks are extended to Carolyn Boykins Grimmette, Sue Grimmette Browning, Matilda Carter, Nadine Blankenship, Carol Trent, Donna Sizemore, Bernadine Osborne, and Lisa Grimmett. James had two special Sunday visitors that he enjoyed so much, Tracy Grimmette, Jr., and Frankie, whom James nicknamed “Drone”. James also had a special lifetime friend, Roger “Chester” White, whom he enjoyed being around. A public viewing will be held Wednesday, February 21, 2024, from 12:00 p.m. until 1:00 p.m. at the Krantz-McNeely Funeral Home Chapel in Man.
